Our History The time was 1994 and the setting was Perkins Family Restaurant in Geneseo. A small group of theater enthusiasts decided they wanted to bring summer theatre to Livonia and as the story goes, a few weeks later they were holding auditions for Godspell. Thus Livonia Community Players was born. From its first musical in August of 1994, LCP quickly grew to provide for the community a variety of theatre opportunities. The 1995 season included not only a musical, Little Shop of Horrors, but also The Odd Couple (Female Version), directed by a high school student; a drama, Steel Magnolias; and a summer youth theatre workshop and children's musical, Annie. In December 1996, a children's theater production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever was added to the play list. Similar schedules were followed in 1996 and 1997. After a hiatus from 1998-2001, LCP was revived and has continued the vision for community theatre as seen by the original founders. Summer musicals begin the season and have ranged from rock operas such as Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat to the more traditional musicals like Damn Yankees and South Pacific. LCP also offers dinner theater productions in late winter; the most recent was a Broadway musical revue, conceived and directed by Jesse VanEpps. When there has been interest, high school students have had the opportunity to direct plays, and the summer youth theatre workshops are now offered jointly by LCP and Geneseo Community Players. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever has become a holiday staple.
